Mother and son suicides Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A mother and son were reportedly found dead in their home in SRL Colony Kottapet, under the limits of Chaitanya Puri police station on Wednesday.

According to police, Gunji Padma, a native of Ongole, and her eldest son, Gunji Vamsi Kanna, took their own lives due to severe financial hardship. The family had migrated to Hyderabad a few years ago in search of better opportunities, but the death of the father, Gunji Shiva, due to illness a few months ago worsened their financial situation.

Unable to cope with the burden of family expenses and the inability to afford her children’s education, Padma tragically ended her life. Devastated by his mother’s loss, Vamsi Kanna also succumbed to despair and committed suicide.

Padma’s younger son discovered the bodies and immediately informed relatives about the deaths of his mother and brother.

Upon receiving the information, local police rushed to the scene and registered a case. The bodies were subsequently shifted to Osmania Hospital for post-mortem.

An investigation into the case is underway, and further details will be released after the investigation, police said.

In a separate incident, the wife of Indian National Congress leader and Choppadandi Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Medipally Satyam allegedly died by suicide at their residence in Alwal on June 21. Alwal police of Cyberabad commissionerate registered a case of suspicious death, and investigations are underway.

Lumbini Park restricts solo boating

In an unusual decision recently, Lumbini Park staff in Hyderabad have imposed restrictions on single visitors using the boating facilities at Hussainsagar Lake. Officials cited concerns about potential suicide attempts by individuals. This decision has caused confusion among visitors as the online booking platform does not mention these restrictions.

Officials from the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) and vendors outside the park claim numerous suicide attempts have occurred during boat rides. A TTDC official told the media, “Numerous suicide attempts have happened in the lake while boating. Hence, the restriction on single people.”
