Dasoju Sravan addressing press meet on Moinabad farmhouse drugs case

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Member of Legislative Council Dasoju Sravan on Sunday demanded a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the alleged drugs incident at former MLA Rohith Reddy’s farmhouse in Moinabad.

He said strict action should be taken against anyone found involved, irrespective of political affiliation. Sravan also criticised what he termed “false propaganda” by the Congress government against BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao.

Addressing a press meet, Sravan said reports suggested that several individuals from different political parties, including Telugu Desam Party MP Mahesh Yadav, were present at the gathering at the farmhouse. Referring to police claims that drugs were found at the premises, he said the truth must be established through an impartial probe.

He accused Congress social media platforms of attempting to malign Rama Rao by linking him to the incident without evidence. Sravan alleged that Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was making baseless allegations due to political hostility.

Calls for collective accountability over drug menace

Questioning whether Congress leaders had the moral authority to speak on the issue, Sravan referred to a seizure of drugs worth ₹12,000 crore in Cherlapally by Mumbai Police. He asked what the state’s “Eagle” anti-drug teams were doing until police from another state intervened.

He said 2,572 drug cases were registered in Telangana in 2025 and claimed narcotics consumption, including ganja, was increasing. Citing a response in the Legislative Council, Sravan said the government had admitted that drug consumption in the state had risen by 30 percent.

Instead of addressing the problem, he alleged, the government was diverting attention through political allegations.

Offers drug tests for legislators across political spectrum

Sravan said BRS leaders were ready to undergo drug tests if doubts were raised. He challenged the Chief Minister to set up special counters within the Assembly premises after the Governor’s address so that MLAs and MLCs from all parties could undergo testing.

He also warned that Congress leaders making allegations against Rama Rao in the drugs issue would face legal action. Sravan recalled that a court had earlier reprimanded minister Konda Surekha for making allegations against the BRS leader.

The MLC further criticised the Congress government for failing to fulfil promises made to farmers, women, youth and senior citizens. He said assurances that guarantees would be implemented within 100 days remained unmet even as the government neared 1,000 days in office.

Sravan said the previous government led by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had taken firm steps to curb drug abuse. He added that BRS would support the current administration if it worked sincerely to tackle the problem but cautioned against politicising a serious issue.

Former Backward Classes Commission member Upendra Chari was also present at the press conference.
