HYDERABAD: Police have said advocate G Swapna’s brother, G Raju, attempted to kill her twice before she was murdered on February 4 at Kethireddypally near Moinabad. Both earlier attempts were allegedly staged as road accidents.

Swapna had filed two separate road accident complaints with Chevella and Moinabad police in November 2025 and January 2026. She alleged that unidentified persons rammed her two-wheeler with a car and later with a bulldozer. During the probe, she told police that her brother could be behind both incidents.

Police said she escaped with injuries in both cases.

While investigating the accident complaints, police verified Raju’s mobile phone location and call data records to check if he was tracking her movements or speaking to suspects. “Raju’s mobile phone location or call data analysis did not indicate that he was involved in the accidents. However, after the murder we examined the phone location details of the co-accused in the murder case and it became evident that one of them, V Veeresh, followed Swapna and was in the same areas where she was at the time of both the accidents,” Chevella DCP Yogesh Goutham said.

Police said Veeresh confessed that he acted on Raju’s instructions along with another co-accused, E Sandeep. According to investigators, Raju wanted to take possession of four acres of family land in Kethireddypally, which is in Swapna’s name, and sought Sandeep’s help to eliminate her.

Raju allegedly promised half an acre of land to Sandeep and money to Veeresh. Police said he used WhatsApp calls to communicate with them and deleted the call logs after each conversation.

Car and bulldozer used in earlier attempts

In the first attempt, Veeresh allegedly rented a car from a friend in Shankarpally mandal for ₹10,000 in November 2025. He rammed Swapna’s scooter at Mudimyal Gate at 10.10 IST on November 6, 2025. “There were no CCTV cameras around the accident spot for about two kilometres as it is a reserve forest area. The accused deliberately chose the spot,” police said.

For the second attempt on January 11, 2026, Veeresh allegedly targeted Swapna near Pavani Resort between Moinabad and Kethireddypally. Police said he hid a bulldozer borrowed from his cousin in a nearby mango grove for two days and drove it onto the road around 19.00 IST when Swapna was passing by the resort. He did not switch on the bulldozer’s lights to avoid CCTV cameras at the resort, police added. After the failed attempt, he again concealed the machine in the grove for a day before returning it at night.

“The accused confessed to their involvement in both previous attempted murder offences. Based on their confession, we arrested Mangali Sekhar from Kethireddypally, who helped the accused by providing Swapna’s location details during the two failed attempts,” the DCP said.

Raju, Sandeep, Veeresh and Shiva are accused in the murder case. In the two attempted murder cases, Raju, Sandeep, Veeresh and Sekhar will be shown as accused. All the accused are in judicial remand.
