Moinabad Municipality: ACB Catches Officials Taking ₹75,000 Bribe

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday caught Moinabad Municipality Town Planning Officer Gundu Vani and Senior Assistant Yelamoni Sudarshan while accepting a ₹75,000 bribe.
According to an ACB press note, Vani demanded the money from a complainant to avoid coercive action over construction work. The officer allegedly planned to treat the construction as illegal if the bribe was not paid.
The ACB said Sudarshan accepted the money on Vani’s behalf. ACB officials recovered ₹75,000 from Sudarshan after the trap.
ACB alleges officials sought undue advantage
The bureau identified Vani as Accused Officer-1 and Sudarshan as Accused Officer-2 in the case.
According to the ACB, both officials misused their official positions to obtain an undue advantage. The bureau said their actions amounted to improper and dishonest performance of official duties.
Sudarshan previously worked as the secretary of Moinabad gram panchayat. He currently serves as a senior assistant at Moinabad Municipality on deputation, the ACB said.
Officials to face judicial remand
The ACB said officials would produce both accused before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally for judicial remand.
Meanwhile, the investigation is continuing. The ACB has not disclosed the complainant’s identity for security reasons.
The bureau urged people to report bribe demands by public servants through its toll-free number, 1064. It said it would keep the identities of victims and complainants confidential.
