Hyderabad ACB DA case: Mohan Naik’s sister-in-law disowns two flats registered in her name
HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has recorded a crucial statement in its disproportionate assets (DA) case against Roads and Buildings engineer-in-chief Mohan Naik. His sister-in-law, Padmini Devi, has reportedly told investigators that two flats registered in her name do not belong to her.
According to ACB sources, Padmini said she registered the properties only at Mohan’s request. Investigators suspect she acted as one of his benamis.
“Though the two flats are in my name, they do not belong to me. At Mohan’s request, I went to the sub-registrar’s office in Serilingampally and executed the sale deeds,” she reportedly told investigators.
ACB submits statement to court
The ACB has placed her statement before a local court in Nampally. The two flats are located near the DLF building in Gachibowli. Officials said Mohan allegedly bought them for ₹2.44 crore. The flats are among seven properties that investigators have linked to him.
ACB officials said it is uncommon for alleged benamis to deny ownership of properties registered in their names. They believe Padmini’s statement supports the evidence collected during the investigation.
More property deals under scanner
The probe has also uncovered documents related to several other property transactions. The ACB alleged that Mohan invested in a power project through benamis.
During searches, investigators recovered records of a ₹67 lakh advance for a flat in Hi-Tec City. They also found documents showing a ₹1 crore payment towards the purchase of a villa in Nizamabad. Officials seized papers related to several other property deals as well.
Earlier, the ACB estimated the value of Mohan’s alleged assets at around ₹17 crore. Officials said the current market value could be much higher.
According to the agency, Mohan earned about ₹3.94 crore through known sources of income since 1995. His expenditure stood at around ₹3.89 crore. Despite this, investigators alleged that he accumulated assets worth ₹17 crore, far beyond his known income.
