Mohan Babu followers attack, kidnap SFI student leaders

TIRUPATI: Student leaders of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) were allegedly attacked and kidnapped by followers of film actor Mohan Babu while they were on their way to stage a protest at the Collectorate, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders said on Tuesday.

SFI district general secretary Akbar and SFI Sri Venkateswara University leader Vinodulu were heading to the Collectorate to protest alleged irregularities at the university run by Mohan Babu when around 30 persons, said to be his followers, arrived in vehicles and attacked them near the Collectorate.
They allegedly abducted the student leaders in their vehicles and took them away, party leaders said.
CPM alerts police, seeks action
Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Kandharapu Murali brought the alleged attack and kidnapping to the notice of Assistant Superintendent of Police Ravi Manohar and Superintendent of Police Subbarayudu.
Murali warned of “serious consequences” if any harm came to the student leaders and demanded strict action by the police and the state government.
Demand for protection to student leaders
Questioning whether violence was the response to demands for accountability, Murali urged the authorities to provide immediate protection to the student leaders.
Kandharapu Murali is vice-president of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Andhra Pradesh, and is based in Tirupati.
