Modi launches Safran aircraft engine facility in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Safran facility to boost aviation manufacturing in India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually launched the Safran aircraft engine services facility in Hyderabad.
Modi said the Centre would continue supporting Safran’s expansion in India. The aviation sector had been growing rapidly in recent years, he noted.
India placed orders for 1,500 aircraft, says PM
The Prime Minister said India had already placed orders for 1,500 aircraft with global manufacturers. Setting up an aircraft engine service centre in the country would significantly help domestic airlines, he added.
He said the Centre was moving ahead with policies that encourage micro, small and medium enterprises. The government had allowed 100% foreign direct investment in several sectors, he noted.
Hyderabad emerging as aerospace, aviation hub: Revanth Reddy
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy thanked Safran for choosing Hyderabad. He said the city’s ecosystem would further strengthen with the new facility.
Hyderabad had already become a hub for aerospace and aviation, with several companies and a large pool of skilled professionals operating in the city, he said. The state government was ready to extend all necessary support to Safran, he added.
Engine servicing to cut aircraft manufacturing costs: Ram Mohan Naidu
Union minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the Safran engine services facility would reduce aircraft manufacturing costs in the future. Airlines would pass on the benefits to passengers, he said.
He said India had long depended on countries such as Singapore and Malaysia for aircraft engine servicing. Launching such a centre in India was a welcome development, he added.
According to him, the initiative was made possible under the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat programme. Hyderabad was steadily evolving into a major aviation hub, he said.
