Modi highlights Karimnagar filigree in Mann Ki Baat

KARIMNAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the Karimnagar filigree silver craft in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address.
Filigree gifts presented at G20 summit
He urged people across the country to promote locally made artistic products. Modi said India had presented handcrafted items from various states to visiting leaders during the G20 summit held in South Africa in November.
As part of this, Japan and Italy’s leaders received a silver Buddha idol and a flower-patterned silver mirror crafted by filigree artisans from Karimnagar.
400-year craft continues to thrive
Filigree gift articles, produced in Karimnagar for more than 400 years, have gained national and international recognition. Chief ministers, senior officials and ministers from different states often purchase these items.
The craft has grown into a local industry, offering employment to hundreds of artisans in the district.
Artisans welcome PM’s mention
Karimnagar Filigree Welfare Association general secretary Gadde Ashok Kumar said the Prime Minister’s reference was a rare honour for the artisans and would bring wider visibility to their work.
