Moazzam Jahi Market Assault

HYDERABAD: What should have been a routine fruit purchase became a nightmare for a father and son at the lively Moazzam Jahi Market, aka MJ Market in Koti, early Tuesday. A minor price dispute quickly erupted into chaos as a mob attacked and a brazen theft unfolded, leaving the pair battered and shaken. Their early morning trip for fresh fruit ended in violence and loss.

Complainant Gajawada Sandeep Kumar (34), a software employee from Vanasthalipuram, Ranga Reddy, said he went with his 70-year-old father, G. Shiva Kumar, to Moazzam Jahi Market in Afzalgunj at about 5:30 AM to buy fruits.

According to Sandeep, trouble started when his father inquired about the price of a fruit bag and called a friend on video to seek advice. The vendor from Moazzam Jahi Market, apparently angered by this, lashed out and shoved the elderly man to the ground.

When Sandeep tried to help his father and questioned the vendors, the situation escalated. “A group of vendors from Moazzam Jahi Market allegedly turned hostile and began assaulting both the father and son. They managed to break free and flee, but were chased and beaten again before finally escaping,” Sandeep told HyderabadMail.

After reaching a safe distance, Sandeep realized his gold chain, weighing about 2.7 tolas, was missing from his neck. He suspects the chain was lost or snatched during the altercation. “After reaching out to the police, they have verified the CCTV in the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, the CCTV camera in front of the shop where the incident happened is not working,” explained Sandeep.

Based on Sandeep Kumar’s written complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Afzalgunj Police Station. The case has been filed under sections 126, 115(2), 303(2) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to offences including voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and robbery.
