Miyapur Police Arrest Woman in Hospital Theft
HYDERABAD:Â The Miyapur police arrested a woman for allegedly stealing gold and silver ornaments from patient attendants at a private hospital in Madinaguda.
Miyapur Detective Inspector Ramesh Naidu said J. Durga, 45, a resident of Shivaji Nagar in Chandanagar, was working as housekeeping staff at the hospital. During inquiry, police found she committed the thefts to make quick money.
On February 25, a software engineer from Aparna Hill Park, Chandanagar, admitted his wife to the hospital for treatment. While she was in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, he was alone in the room. Police said the accused entered the room between 8.51 pm and 8.56 pm and stole three tolas of a gold chain, three tolas of gold bangles, one tola of gold earrings and three tolas of silver articles from a bag.
The victim lodged a complaint the next morning after noticing the ornaments were missing.
CCTV footage leads to arrest
Police registered a case and examined CCTV footage at the hospital. The footage showed the woman entering the room and later leaving without showing her bag to security staff after duty hours.
Based on technical evidence, police detained her at her residence. During questioning, she confessed to the theft, police said.
Officers recovered about seven tolas of gold ornaments and 2.5 tolas of silver articles from her possession.
Senior officials appreciated the police team for solving the case swiftly.
Advisory to public and hospital management
Police advised the public not to carry valuables or large amounts of cash while visiting hospitals.
Hospital managements were asked to monitor staff closely and ensure CCTV cameras function continuously.
Police urged people to inform the nearest police station immediately if they notice any suspicious person or activity.
