Milad juloos: Hyderabad police denies lathi-charge on youth near Mecca masjid
Hyderabad: Milad-un-Nabi was celebrated on Thursday across Hyderabad with traditional fervour and gaiety. Thousands of Muslims, young and old, participated in the processions in the twin cities to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
This year Milad-un-Nabi celebrations coincided with the Ganesh idols immersion on September 16. During a review meeting with the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Milad Committees and Muslim elders agreed to reschedule the Milad processions to September 20, Thursday.
Under the leadership Sunni United Forum of India (SUFI), five Milad processions were taken out in the Old City of Hyderabad to mark the 1499th birth anniversary of Islamic Prophet.
The central Milad procession which began from Engine Bowli culminated at Volta Hotel junction with several smaller processions converging into it along the route.
Skirmishes mar Milad juloos
A few skirmishes were witnessed here and there while the bigger procession was underway. It is said five people including two young processionists were injured near Santoshi Mata Temple at Jumerat Bazar. It is not clear what led to the altercation between the bike-borne processionists who were heading towards Aghapura and the locals.
Police Commissioner responds to lathicharge claim
Around Thursday evening a video went viral in which police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel deployed for security near Charminar were shown lathi charging the youth who were returning home after the procession ended.
You can watch the lathi-charge video below:
Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand denied the claim that the police used mild force against the youth. He asserted that the police did not resort to lathicharge and requested the people to not fall prey to “rumours” of baton-charging on Muslim youth.

But this video shows the opp (of course notwithstanding the fact that a mob had gathered so the cops responded). pic.twitter.com/3pRmzJwtRn
