Hyderabad: A local court in Hyderabad has sentenced two men to 14 days in jail each for keeping their hotels open past midnight in violation of local regulations.

The 4th Special Judicial Magistrate’s Court convicted Mohammed Irfan, a 19-year-old cashier, for operating the Mandi Town Hotel in Mehdipatnam-LIC Colony beyond the permitted hours.

The police registered a case against Irfan, which led to his appearance in court where Judge D.C. Umapathi Rao handed down the sentence.

In a separate case, Mohammed Mujeeb, the 32-year-old manager of Friends’ Past Food Centre in Syed Aliguda, Asif Nagar, was sentenced to 14 days in prison for keeping his establishment open past midnight.

Following the formation of the new Congress government in recent weeks, several commercial outlets, including food and liquor shops, have been closing between 10 and 11 p.m. Enhanced police surveillance has been implemented, with officers actively discouraging late-night activities.

Despite these measures, Hyderabad, with its vibrant metropolitan character, continues to maintain a lively night culture.

On Friday, August 2, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced plans to revive the city’s nightlife. He stated that, moving forward, commercial outlets, including food and liquor shops, will be allowed to operate until 1 a.m. in the three police commissionerates of Hyderabad, Rachakonda, and Cyberabad. Reddy mentioned that he had discussed the matter with the commissioners on the 24th and 25th in the month of July during a meeting.

Revanth Reddy assured that restaurants will remain open until midnight. However, he said that liquor shops will not be allowed to operate beyond the permissible hours to prevent excessive alcohol consumption. The Chief Minister promised to issue official orders soon.
