Microsoft CrowdStrike Outage

Hyderabad : Following a global technology outage on Friday, the Microsoft Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella released a statement on his microblogging site, X (formerly Twitter) and said that they are working closely with CrowdStrike and others to bring the systems back online. Microsoft Windows is one of the most affected systems, resulting in the IT failure of several services, including transport services like flights and commercial services as well.

The statement by Nadella read, “Yesterday, CrowdStrike released an update that began impacting IT systems globally. We are aware of this issue and are working closely with CrowdStrike and across the industry to provide customers technical guidance and support to safely bring their systems back online.”

What is the CrowdStrike outage?

According to the reports, the entire IT failure stems from a Software update made by an US based Cybersecurity firm, Crowdstrike. As per the executive statement released by the Crowdstrike on its website, it was said that on July 19, 2024, CrowdStrike released a sensor configuration update to the Windows systems. This update further triggered a ‘logic error’ resulting in the system crash and blue screen on all the impacted systems. Further, the company also clarified that it is not related to any of the cyberattack or such.

The CrowdStrike company CEO, George Kurtz also acknowledged and apologized for the malfunction. In his X statement, he said, “We understand the gravity of the situation and are deeply sorry for the inconvenience and disruption. We are working with all impacted customers to ensure that systems are back up and they can deliver the services their customers are counting on. As noted earlier, the issue has been identified and a fix has been deployed. There was an issue with a Falcon content update for Windows Hosts. CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack.”
