Parents protest at Metpally Gurukulam over alleged poor-quality food
HYDERABAD: Parents staged a protest at the Social Welfare Gurukulam School for Girls in Metpally on Sunday, alleging that students were being served substandard food. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists joined the protest.
Acting on complaints from students, the parents, accompanied by BJP leaders, inspected the school kitchen. They alleged that they found rotten vegetables and rice contaminated with insects.
The protesters questioned the principal over the quality of food being served to students and later staged a dharna in front of the school.
Parents seek Collector’s intervention over food quality
BJP leaders alleged that the school management had failed to provide quality food and basic facilities to the students. The protesting parents demanded that the district collector intervene and take action against those responsible.
Metpally Municipal Chairman Onkari Naveen and a Congress leader also visited the school and faulted the management over the issue.
Education official receives complaint from parents
In-charge Mandal Education Officer K. Kanakathara visited the school and received a written complaint from the parents.
The protesters withdrew the dharna after the official assured them that the issue would be taken up with higher authorities for appropriate action.
