Methodist Colony in Begumpet cleans up ahead of Republic Day celebrations

Hyderabad: In preparation for Republic Day, residents of Methodist Colony, Begumpet, have undertaken a major cleanliness drive to improve their surroundings. Led by the Methodist Colony Welfare Association, the initiative focused on clearing footpaths and roads that had been filled with construction debris, silt, and sand mounds for decades.
General Secretary Jhansi Samuel Lam, along with her panel members, recognized the urgent need to maintain cleanliness in the colony. The project took over a month to complete, as the team worked tirelessly to clear the accumulated waste from public spaces that had long been neglected. The effort has transformed the area, ensuring that residents can now enjoy cleaner streets.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Jhansi Samuel Lam, who is heading the association’s first all-women panel for the 2024-2026 term in Telangana as General Secretary, highlighted that cleanliness is a priority for the association.
She spoke about their future plans to further develop the colony, with a focus on improving residents’ health, happiness, and the overall appearance of the area. “We hope our efforts will inspire other colonies across the state,” she said.
To celebrate the successful cleanup and Republic Day, the association is organizing several community events. These include games for women and children, and a dance program performed by the colony’s children. Prizes will be awarded to winners of the games, fostering a sense of unity and community spirit.
The cleanup not only prepares the colony for Republic Day celebrations but also shows the residents’ commitment to maintaining a cleaner, greener environment year-round. Methodist Colony is now ready to celebrate Republic Day with pride, having made significant strides toward creating a better living space for all.
