Heavy security at Uppal stadium for Messi exhibition match
HYDERABAD: Heavy security has been deployed at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, ahead of the GOAT India Tour 2025 exhibition football match scheduled for the evening, following a recent security incident in Kolkata.
Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy said Telangana Police were on high alert, with multi-layer security arrangements put in place at and around the venue. He said additional forces, surveillance teams and access control measures had been deployed to ensure safety of players, dignitaries and spectators.
Argentine footballer Lionel Messi is expected to arrive at the stadium at 19.15 IST, officials said. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Revanth Reddy are scheduled to attend the match.
Police have announced traffic diversions in Uppal and surrounding areas. Heavy vehicles will be restricted from 12.00 IST to 23.50 IST. Commuters have been advised to plan travel in advance and use alternative routes to avoid congestion.
