Medchal tops Telangana school performance index
HYDERABAD: Medchal-Malkajgiri district has emerged as the top performer among Telangana’s districts in the Union Ministry of Education’s Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2025–26 for school education. While Rangareddy led in infrastructure, Hyderabad slipped behind in several key indicators.
Medchal leads overall performance
The latest PGI report, released by the Union Ministry of Education, assessed districts on key parameters including learning outcomes, digital learning, governance processes and school infrastructure. Among the Greater Hyderabad districts, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy and Hyderabad posted mixed performances.
Medchal-Malkajgiri secured the highest overall score in the state with 730 marks, driven by better teacher availability, higher student attendance and effective implementation of digital learning in schools. The district also performed strongly in governance and management, reflecting improvements in monitoring and timely utilisation of education funds.
Rangareddy excels in infrastructure
Rangareddy district topped the infrastructure and resources category, highlighting better school facilities and availability of educational resources. It recorded an overall score of 720, placing second among Telangana districts.
Hyderabad trails in learning outcomes
Despite having relatively better infrastructure and resources, Hyderabad lagged in learning outcomes. The district scored 660 overall, placing third among the three Greater Hyderabad districts and indicating the need to improve students’ academic performance.
