Medchal hotel worker detained over alleged links with Pakistan-backed network

HYDERABAD: Telangana Police have detained a man from Uttar Pradesh in Medchal over alleged links with a Pakistan-backed network and suspected contact with anti-national elements through social media.
The detained individual, identified as Jayid Khan, a native of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, was working at a hotel in Medchal. Police alleged that he had been in contact with anti-national elements through Instagram and had attempted to procure weapons.
Alleged contacts through Instagram
According to police sources, Khan was employed at Mubarak Hotel in Medchal. Investigators suspect that he was interested in joining a group allegedly supported by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and had tried to establish contact through his Instagram account.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police detained Khan from the hotel and launched an investigation into his activities.
Mobile phone sent for examination
During the operation, police recovered two fake pistols and seized Khan’s mobile phone. Investigators are examining chats, call records and social media activity to verify the nature of his contacts and communications.
Officials said the recovered pistols appeared to be imitation weapons. However, the seized digital evidence is being analysed to determine whether Khan had links to any wider network.
Probe into possible wider links
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of Khan’s alleged connections and whether others were involved.
No official statement has yet been issued regarding any charges filed against Khan. Authorities are continuing to examine evidence and verify the allegations.
