Medchal CMR College declares 3-day holiday amid bathroom video recording investigation

Medchal: Seven individuals, including a hostel warden, have been detained by the police as they intensify their investigation into the incident at CMR Engineering College in Medchal, where private videos of female students were reportedly recorded in the girls’ hostel.

Authorities have seized nine mobile phones related to the case. The hostel warden has been suspended, and police have collected fingerprints, which have been sent to a forensic lab. Parents of the affected students are concerned about the potential spread of the videos.

The Women’s Commission has started its investigation, and the case investigation will be based on the forensic report available. The college has declared a three-day holiday, and students will return home.

The incident came to light on January 1, 2025, when a student found a mobile phone hidden in a hostel bathroom containing 300 inappropriate videos of fellow inmates. This led to protests by students demanding a thorough investigation and severe punishment for those involved.

Student union leaders joined the protests, which continued into the night. Local police arrived, took statements from students, and assured them a case would be registered. The investigation is ongoing.
