Medak man kills friend over ₹22 dispute

HYDERABAD: A man was allegedly killed by his friend following a drunken argument over ₹22 in Medak district during Sankranti, police said.
The incident occurred in Ananthasagar village of Chegunta mandal. Both the victim and the accused were natives of Uttar Pradesh and were living together in the village.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Siraj, 30. The accused has been identified as Mahesh Kumar Verma.
According to police, the two consumed alcohol together throughout the day. Later, Mahesh asked Siraj to repay ₹22 he had borrowed. An argument broke out and escalated into violence.
In an inebriated state, Mahesh allegedly smashed Siraj’s head against a nearby tree and later struck him with a stone. Siraj sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
Police registered a murder case soon after the incident. During interrogation, Mahesh reportedly confessed to killing his friend over the small amount of money.
Addressing a media meet, Deputy Superintendent of Police Narender Goud, along with Toopran circle inspector Rangakrishna and Chegunta sub-inspector Chaitanya Kumar Reddy, said the incident had sent shockwaves through the village.
Further investigation is underway.
