Telangana Gold Theft From Ashes Shocks Chegunta Village

HYDERABAD: As gold prices soar, some have sunk to new moral lows. In a disturbing incident at Chegunta in Medak district, thieves allegedly took away ashes from two cremation sites to steal gold ornaments.

Families stunned after visiting cremation ground

According to Sub-Inspector Chaitanya Reddy, older women Muradi Narsamma  died on October 30, and Nagamani  died on October 31. Both were cremated at the local Vaikunthadham cremation ground.

On Saturday, Nagamani’s family visited the site and found that her half-burnt remains had been pulled out. When they checked the adjacent pyre of Narsamma, they discovered that ashes from the head portion had been removed.

Police suspect gold theft from bodies

During funerals, small gold items are often placed in the deceased’s mouth, and ear ornaments are sometimes left on the body. Police suspect the thieves removed the ashes to retrieve these ornaments.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
