Medak Drug Case Accused Probed Over Role in Wife’s Sarpanch Poll Win

Medak Synthetic Drug Accused Under Eagle Probe After Wife Wins Sarpanch Election

HYDERABAD: A Medak district resident earlier arrested in a synthetic drug manufacturing case has come under fresh scrutiny after investigators suspected he played a key role in securing his wife’s victory in a recent sarpanch election.

Officials from the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) are examining how he allegedly mobilised funds for the campaign. Authorities had attached his properties worth nearly ₹30 crore last year.

The accused holds a PhD in organic chemistry. Medak and Cyberabad police arrested him three times since 2021 for allegedly manufacturing Alprazolam. He spent nearly six months in jail before securing bail in October 2025, as reported by TOI.

Heavy Spending Suspected in Election Campaign

Investigators suspect he spent heavily during the village election campaign. Officials say the campaign allegedly included food and liquor for villagers for nearly two weeks.

Sources in EAGLE said he remained actively involved in the campaign despite the legal action against him. His wife later won the sarpanch election.

₹30 Crore Properties Attached

EAGLE officials said the agency attached 17 properties worth about ₹30 crore through a competent court in Chennai during its crackdown on a synthetic drug network.

“It appears he used benamis to pool money. Though his wife contested the election, he actively worked for her victory,” sources in EAGLE said.

Toddy Centres Linked to Drug Network

Investigators first uncovered the network while probing his brother-in-law, a police constable. Police arrested the constable last year for allegedly colluding with him.

Officials said the constable’s mobile phone contained daily updates on sales at toddy compounds where the drug was allegedly supplied.

The network allegedly mixed sachets of Alprazolam with toddy before selling it to customers. Investigators say one kilogram of Alprazolam can fetch around ₹10 lakh in the bulk market, while just one gram can spike nearly 2,000 bottles of toddy.

Officials added that several toddy centres linked to the network were involved in illegal activities.

Drug Manufacturing at Multiple Locations

Investigators also allege that the sarpanch’s husband used premises of different companies to manufacture the drug. These locations include Vijayawada and Cherlapally.

Officials said he manufactured nearly 80 kg of Alprazolam in one of the four criminal cases registered against him.

Investigators also said a political party backed the sarpanch candidature.
