HYDERABAD: Maoist leaders have disclosed a clandestine financial network that channelled crores of rupees and gold to senior central committee member Thippiri Tirupati alias Devji, according to interrogation records examined by investigators.

Officials said the statements point to a structured underground economy that continues to support the organisation across the Dandakaranya region.

Interrogation notes show that Mallojula Vengupal alias Sonu told police the Maoist party follows a January–December financial cycle, collecting ₹10 crore–12 crore annually in the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee area through levies imposed on road contractors, stone crusher units and forest contractors.

Police said Vengupal is believed to have told investigators that in April this year the party handed ₹6 crore and 5kg of gold to former central committee member Ashanna, with district committee and zonal committee leaders handling finances within their respective divisions.

Officials said the Maoist leadership acknowledged that revenue dipped this year after the Chhattisgarh government shifted tendu leaf contracting to e-tendering and e-auctions, reducing opportunities for levy collection.

Adumal Venkatesh alias Santhu Dada, secretary of the south sub-zonal committee, reportedly told police he received ₹6 crore and 5kg of gold as party funds in September. Police said he surrendered on October 14.

Investigators said Venkatesh initially did not intend to surrender but changed his mind later. Before doing so, he handed the funds to central committee member Malla Raji Reddy. Police said Sangram then passed the money to Devji through a “network channel”.

Another Maoist, Satish, confirmed during questioning that the funds reached Devji.
