MANUU conducts seminar on ‘Historiography and Muslim Historians’

Hyderabad: One of the significant contributions of the Mughal era was “the expansion and promotion of literacy, ” said Prof. Farhat Hasan, Department of History, University of Delhi, while addressing the national seminar held at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad.
The two-day national seminar was organized by the varsity’s Department of Islamic Studies. The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Fazlur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor Incharge, MANUU while the valedictory session was addressed by the esteemed academicians Prof. Deepak Kumar, Prof. Nishat Manzar and Prof. SM Azizuddin Hussain on Friday.
The seminar on “Historiography and Muslim Historians: An Indian Perspective” saw various distinguished speakers including Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, MANUU, throwing a light on the contributions of Mughal rulers in the field of education.
Referencing the historical evidence, Prof. Farhat Hasan said the Mughals did not discriminate between languages as both Persian and Sanskrit languages received equal patronage during their reign.
Referring to the work of historian Mannan Asif, he explained how Persian literature, such as “Tareekh-e-Farishta” and “Ain-e-Akbari”, represented India as a place of tolerance, multiculturalism, and inclusivity. He also said that these writings from the Mughal era help us understand the diverse and integrated cultural landscape of medieval India.
On this occasion, Prof. Farhat Hasan released two books, the proceedings of recent seminars edited by Prof. Fahim Akhtar Nadwi.
