Former PM Manmohan Singh dies at 92 in Delhi; Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to pay tributes

Hyderabad: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, announced with profound grief the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India, at the age of 92. He had been receiving treatment for age-related medical conditions and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26, 2024. Resuscitative measures were immediately initiated at his residence.
Dr. Manmohan Singh was brought to AIIMS Medical Emergency at 8:06 p.m. Despite all efforts to revive him, he was declared dead at 9:51 p.m.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow on social media. In his tribute, Revanth Reddy called Dr. Manmohan Singh “One of the greatest economists, leaders, reformers, and above all, a humanitarian.” Revanth Reddy highlighted Manmohan Singh’s integrity, decency, and humane touch in decision-making, noting his monumental contribution to India’s development.

“The passing away of Dr. Manmohan Singh is a great loss to the nation,” Telangana CM added. “His legacy will continue to inspire future generations. My heartfelt condolences to his family.”
According to the sources, CM Revanth Reddy, currently attending the Congress Working Committee meetings in Belagavi, will leave for Delhi today to pay homage to the late Prime Minister. After paying his respects, he will return to Hyderabad in the evening. The Telangana government has declared a holiday for all government offices and educational institutions in honor of Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Former minister and BRS Working President K. Taraka Rama Rao also expressed condolences, describing Singh as a “silent architect of modern India” whose legacy would continue to inspire. “History will indeed be kinder and grateful to you,” he wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh, calling him one of India’s most distinguished leaders. He praised Manmohan Singh’s rise from humble beginnings to his impactful role as an economist, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister. “He made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives,” Modi added.

Film actor Chiranjeevi Konidela, too, mourned Dr. Singh’s passing, recalling his contributions as Finance Minister and Prime Minister. “His visionary leadership and game-changing contributions will remain etched in history,” Chiranjeevi said.
