Manikonda BRS alleges unfair water distribution, seeks vigilance probe
HYDERABAD: The Manikonda Bharat Rashtra Samithi(BRS) party raised concerns about unfair and irregular drinking water distribution in the Manikonda and Neknampur municipal divisions. The party criticized officials for failing to make Elevated Service Reservoirs (ESRs), built for crores of rupees, operational on time. Further, they demanded a Vigilance investigation into irregularities.
The ESRs at Alkapur Township Sports Park, Krishna Reddy Enclave, and LIC Colony/Sai Chandra Colony were inaugurated on February 6, 2025, but the public still cannot use them. Previously, the BRS party repeatedly raised this issue. However, only after Karthik Reddy led the “Walk for Water” program did the Water Board start junction connectivity work. This work revealed that the reservoirs were not fully functional earlier.
Meanwhile, residents worry about possible leaks and wasted water. They blame poor coordination between the HDPE pipelines installed by the old Manikonda Municipality and those laid by the Water Board.
The Citizen Council Vice president Ande Laxman Rao alleges that some gated communities get continuous water through bulk connections drawn directly from trunk lines, bypassing the standard distribution network. Meanwhile, other colonies face severe water shortages. The BRS says every citizen has a right to fair water supply under Article 21 of the Constitution.
Given these concerns, the BRS party called on the Vigilance & Enforcement Department to investigate several issues. These include why the ESRs are not operational, delays in junction connectivity, technical problems with the pipelines, and why some areas get bulk connections from trunk lines. Additionally, they want officials, contractors, and anyone responsible for water distribution problems investigated. The party demanded action against those found guilty of corruption or illegal asset accumulation, even if they have retired or been transferred.
The BRS party insists that public infrastructure must benefit everyone. Senior leaders, including Sitaram Dhulipala, Ande Laxman Rao, Guttamidi Narender, Upendranath Reddy, and others, said they will keep fighting until all residents of Manikonda and Neknampur get fair access to drinking water.
