Manikonda Locals Demand Irc Compliant Speed Breakers After Frequent Accidents

Hyderabad: Residents of Manikonda are raising concerns over repeated accidents and skidding incidents near Anjali Gardens Junction, which they say has become a dangerous black spot due to poor visibility caused by surrounding buildings and the presence of non-standard speed breakers. Locals are demanding immediate safety measures, including the construction of speed breakers that comply with standard guidelines.

Shaik Aarif Mohammed, General Secretary of the Citizens’ Council and admin of Apna Manikonda, told Hyderabad Mail, “We are deeply concerned about the recurring road safety issues in our locality. A recent accident near Anjali Garden Chourastha again shows the urgent need for properly constructed speed breakers.”

He also referred to another accident near the entrance of Pioneer Estate, caught on CCTV. “The footage shows no visible speed breakers, non-functional streetlights, and a lack of proper traffic signage,” he said.

Mohammed noted that some speed breakers were earlier laid by private individuals without supervision from municipal engineers. “Though they were later corrected following complaints, we strongly urge that any such work must be carried out under the supervision of the Assistant Engineer (AE) or Deputy Engineer (DE),” he added.

He said such actions violate Supreme Court rulings and Indian Road Congress (IRC) guidelines. “Several existing speed breakers in the area do not comply with IRC standards. These guidelines must be followed,” he said.

“Private individuals should not interfere in public infrastructure,” he added. “We appeal for the involvement of the Work Inspector, AE, and DE to ensure proper implementation and safety.”

Mohammed also said officials recently inspected one of the accident spots. “Yes, it was inspected yesterday. But are they following the IRC norms? No one is. They may lay speed breakers, but at least follow the standards. Why are private individuals involved in this work?” he questioned.

Apna Manikonda also raised the issue on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating,
“Daily accidents near Anjali Gardens junction—this is a dangerous black spot with poor visibility due to surrounding buildings. Immediate need for speed breakers or other safety measures! @CYBTRAFFIC @cyberabadpolice @dcpmadhapur_cyb @ManikondaMc @CollectorRRD”

Residents are urging authorities to take swift action before further accidents occur.
