Manikonda drainage issues action

Manikonda: Residents of Tanasha Nagar in Manikonda are struggling with severe drainage issues that have caused stagnant water to accumulate on the roads. This has led to the breeding of mosquitoes and the potential spread of seasonal diseases.

The affected area lies within the Ambience Courtyard, a gated community with 850 flats, situated at Survey No. 4, Pokkalwada Village, Tanasha Nagar. The leakage is said to be a result of road cutting for laying a drainage pipeline that exceeded the sanctioned limits.

Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Shaik Aarif, Citizens Council General Secretary and Admin of Apna Manikonda, said, “The drainage leakage is flowing onto the poorly maintained roads at Ambience Courtyard.” He alleged that permission was originally granted for only 80 meters of road cutting for the drainage pipe, but the authorities extended it to one kilometer, causing damage to the drainage system. When the councilor questioned them about the permission copy, they denied the information to the councillors.

“There’s also a lack of a proper Sewage Treatment Plant for the Ambience Court Yard, which could be another reason for the drainage overflowing onto the roads,” Aarif added.

Residents also highlighted the deplorable condition of roads throughout Manikonda. “Every road is riddled with potholes, each with its own history of problems. Roads are dug up for water lines, then drainage issues arise after new lines are laid. Now, the roads are left incomplete, creating a terrible situation,” Aarif said.

“For the past two years, there have been complaints about these horrible roads. It’s surprising that no higher authorities have visited to understand the real situation,” he said.

Aarif further noted a recent accident where a motorcyclist lost his life due to potholes near the Tipu Khan Bridge in Langer House. He also said, “He was wearing a helmet, who is responsible? The rider, or the authorities who failed to maintain the roads?”

Apna Manikonda admin appealed to the District Collector, who recently attended a conference with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. “The CM urged the Collector to address people’s civic issues. We hope the Collector will follow CM Revanth Reddy’s orders. Despite repeated complaints about roads and drainage in Manikonda, no authority has addressed our concerns. Even the inaction of the Manikonda Municipality Commissioner is evident,” Aarif said.
