HYDERABAD: Mangalhat police arrested a meat trader and seized around 300kg of decomposed goat and sheep offal during a raid on March 10, 2026, in Mangalhat area of Hyderabad.

The operation was conducted by the Mangalhat police station team, Task Force of Golconda Zone, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials and the food adulteration team following credible information about the sale of unhygienic meat.

Police identified the accused as Mohammed Afroz alias Afroz, 41, a resident of Amar Nagar Colony in Mangalhat. He was running a sheep and goat offal business under the name “A to Z Sheep & Goat Offals” at RK Pet near Chisti Chaman Dargah in Mangalhat.

Long-stored meat sold as fresh, police say

According to police, the accused allegedly procured goat and sheep offal in bulk from Karnataka, Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir at low prices.

Officials said he stored the meat for long periods in deep freezers and plastic tubs filled with stagnant water to delay decomposition and suppress foul smell.

Police alleged that the accused sold the long-stored and unhygienic meat to customers by falsely claiming it was fresh and hygienic, thereby cheating customers and posing a risk to public health.

300kg decomposed offal seized during inspection

During the inspection, officials found large quantities of meat stored in highly unhygienic conditions at the premises.

About 300kg of decomposed goat and sheep offal was identified and seized. GHMC officials later removed the seized material for safe disposal as per procedure.

Police registered a case (Crime No.102/2026) under Sections 125, 271 and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched further investigation.

Authorities said the accused had previously been involved in a similar offence and was fined earlier by GHMC officials.
