Life sentence for man who killed his live-in partner in Bowenpally

Secunderabad: On April 7, 2025, the Hon’ble VI Additional Sessions Judge court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his live-in partner. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000, with a three-month simple imprisonment in case of default.
The victim has been identified as Swapna, aged 30, who had been in a relationship with the accused, K. Shiva, a 33-year-old laborer from Pedda Thokatta, Bowenpally. Despite Swapna’s marriage to another man, Rajesh, she continued her affair with Shiva. The couple later lived together in Hasmathpet, Bowenpally.
On December 23, 2023, a dispute between the couple led to the tragic incident. After consuming alcohol, Shiva poured kerosene on Swapna while she was asleep and set her on fire. Neighbors heard her screams and rushed her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The investigation was conducted by Former Inspector of Police R.R. Rangaiah of Bowenpally Police Station. The accused was convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder.
The court’s sentence was pronounced by Judge S. Sreedevi, with Additional Public Prosecutor Upender representing the case.
