Mallepally sees illegal five-storey construction on 30 yards
NAMPALLY: Illegal constructions are continuing in the Masab Tank Circle-34 area, with multi-storey buildings coming up without the required permissions. In Old Mallepally, a five-storey building is being constructed on a 30-yard plot.
Construction work on the building was temporarily halted after officials issued notices. Officials have issued notices to 36 builders for taking up construction in violation of rules in the Masab Tank Circle-34 limits.
The violations identified include digging double cellars, encroaching on setback areas, constructing more floors than permitted, taking up multi-storey constructions without permissions, and building structures by encroaching on nalas and government land.
Officials flag buildings exceeding approved floors
Officials have identified buildings where more floors were constructed than those approved. Notices have also been issued to a section officer for failing to take action against such violations.
According to information, the officer has received six memos in a short period. This is reportedly the first time a section officer in the Masab Tank Circle limits has received so many memos.
The inaction is reportedly linked to a lack of field-level inspections and the alleged use of chainmen, shadow chainmen and technical staff to facilitate illegal constructions.
Third notices may lead to demolition recommendations
Even after receiving second notices, some builders are continuing with multi-storey constructions. If they fail to give a satisfactory response to town planning officials, third notices should be issued and demolition recommended, according to the procedure outlined in the report.
However, the delay by Masab Tank Circle town planning officials in acting against the constructions, the increasing number of complaints and the vigilance department’s inquiry into the matter have become a talking point.
