Malkajgiri Traffic Police launches ‘Helmet Bank’ to boost rider safety

HYDERABAD: The Malkajgiri Traffic Police has launched a field-level “Helmet Bank” initiative to improve helmet usage among two-wheeler riders in the zone.
The initiative was introduced under the guidance of the Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri, and led by DCP (Traffic) K. Rahul Reddy, IPS.
Under the programme, riders found travelling without a helmet are being given an option to borrow one free of cost at the spot. They must submit their basic details and return the helmet within 24 hours after purchasing a new one.
Officials said the objective is to ensure immediate compliance and protect lives, instead of focusing only on punitive action. The initiative seeks to encourage responsible riding behaviour and create lasting behavioural change.
Implemented at key junctions in Malkajgiri
The “Helmet Bank” has been rolled out at key traffic junctions across the Malkajgiri Zone, including Sangeet Chowrasta under the Gopalapuram Traffic Police Station limits.
Police said the measure aims to prevent head injuries, save lives and build public trust through positive policing.
The initiative also reinforces the ongoing “Arrive Alive” road safety campaign of Telangana Police, which stresses that wearing a helmet is essential for every trip, irrespective of distance.
Malkajgiri Traffic Police appealed to all two-wheeler riders to wear helmets regularly and support the mission of safer roads.
