HYDERABAD: Police in the newly formed Malkajgiri commissionerate are set to make amusement licences mandatory for star hotels, film theatres, pubs and other large establishments operating within their jurisdiction.

Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring compliance with safety norms in places that attract large public gatherings.

“This is necessary to ensure that safety precautions are followed by establishments where the public is expected in large numbers. This exercise will also help identify properties that do not meet safety norms,” a source in Malkajgiri police told TOI.

No centralised data on establishments

At present, police do not have a centralised record of the number of establishments functioning under the commissionerate, particularly theatres.

In neighbouring Cyberabad commissionerate, police have made it mandatory since 2024 for establishments to obtain an amusement or establishment licence. A similar requirement was introduced in Hyderabad last year.

NOC, trade licence among key requirements

Under the proposed system, an amusement licence will be issued only after the establishment submits a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the district fire officer confirming fire safety compliance.

Applicants must also produce a trade licence from local municipal authorities, a certificate from the local health officer, approval from the town planner, a copy of building permission and other relevant documents.

Star hotels, farmhouses, resorts, pubs, bars, restaurants and other large establishments are expected to seek police permission under the Malkajgiri commissionerate once the rule is notified.

Police are currently creating the required infrastructure and compiling information on such establishments.

The newly created Malkajgiri commissionerate has 27 police stations, including Begumpet, Kharkhana and Trimulgherry, which were recently carved out from Hyderabad.
