MALKAJGIRI: Senior IPS officer B Sumathi assumed charge as the Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri Commissionerate, on Friday. Senior police officials and staff welcomed her on the occasion. She later spoke to the media.

Sumathi said her appointment as the first woman police commissioner of Malkajgiri is both an honour and a responsibility. She added that delivering transparent and efficient services to the public will be her primary duty.

The commissioner said Malkajgiri has a reputation as a peaceful area. She stated that the police will work to retain that image and ensure law and order without compromise.

AI tools to strengthen crime control and investigations

She said modern technology will be widely used to control crime. The commissioner added that the Artificial Intelligence-based “TG QUEST” system will be deployed.

She said cybercrimes are rising with changing times and will be handled with a process-oriented and result-oriented approach. Steps will be taken to ensure victims receive timely and informed justice. Awareness programmes will also be conducted to educate the public about crime prevention.

Drug trafficking crackdown and traffic management plans

Sumathi said strict action will be taken against the illegal transport and use of drugs, which she described as a major challenge to society. Focus will be on prevention, detection, and effective investigation.

She added that AI-based surveillance will be introduced to prevent youth from falling into substance abuse.

The commissioner said traffic regulation will be prioritised in view of increasing vehicle congestion in the commissionerate limits. Measures will be taken to ensure smooth travel and reduce inconvenience to commuters.

She thanked the government and the Director General of Police for appointing her. “We will perform our duties efficiently with transparency in line with government guidelines,” she said.
