MALKAJGIRI: Ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for February 11, 2026, Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty has issued orders under Section 21 of the Arms Act, 1959, directing licensed weapon holders in the Shamirpet police station limits to deposit their firearms.

Order issued under Arms Act ahead of polls

All licensed arms holders must immediately deposit their weapons either at the local police station or with an authorised arms dealer, the order said. The measure has been taken to ensure maintenance of law and order during the election period.

Limited exemption for security personnel

The exemption applies only to guards working in nationalised banks and public sector institutions, and to authorised security personnel.

Deadline and retrieval of weapons

The order warned that failure to comply would invite legal action and seizure of weapons. Licensed holders can reclaim their weapons after completion of the election process, on or after February 15, 2026.
