Malakpet railway station redevelopment to finish by June

HYDERABAD: Redevelopment work at Malakpet Railway Station is progressing rapidly, and officials said the upgraded station will be ready by June.
₹26.5 crore project under Amrit Bharat scheme
South Central Railway is executing the ₹26.5 crore project under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The ground floor and terrace slab have been completed, along with modernisation of the booking office on the first floor. Boundary walls, the via duct and several civil structures are also ready.
Plumbing and plastering are under way, while work on parking sheds has begun, officials added.
12-metre foot overbridge, lifts and escalators planned
As part of the upgrade, a 12 metre wide foot overbridge is being built. Dedicated toilets for persons with disabilities are nearing completion. Roof structures over platforms, two new lifts and two escalators will be installed shortly.
Railway officials said the redevelopment aims to offer world-class amenities to passengers. Across Telangana, around 40 railway stations are being rebuilt at an estimated ₹2,750 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the station-redevelopment programme in August 2023. Work continues at Secunderabad, while upgrades at Begumpet, Warangal and Karimnagar have been completed. Modi inaugurated these three stations recently.

Facilities at Malakpet station
Malakpet serves MMTS trains and long-distance services including the Kachiguda–Kurnool, Tungabhadra Express and Kachiguda–Guntur Express.
Under the Amrit Bharat scheme, the station precinct will be reorganised and the main entry will be redesigned. Dedicated selfie points, signage boards and train-information boards will be added. Landscaping and special lighting are planned at the entrance.
Officials said the redevelopment will also ensure seamless movement between the Malakpet Metro Station and the railway station.
