In response to the distress call, airport authorities took quick action, halting all international flight landings and takeoffs to ensure the runway was clear. The aircraft successfully made an emergency landing without incident.
Earlier, on January 4, 2025, a scheduled IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Visakhapatnam was diverted to RGIA due to a mid-flight technical issue. The aircraft landed safely in Hyderabad, and all 144 passengers disembarked without injury. The airline confirmed the rerouting after the pilot detected the malfunction.
Passengers expressed relief, reflecting on the potential risks if the situation had escalated. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the issue, with some questioning whether more stringent safety measures are necessary.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on September 24, 2024, when an Air India flight from Hyderabad to Tirupati was forced to make an emergency landing due to an engine problem shortly after takeoff.
The ATR-72-600 aircraft landed safely, and all passengers were unharmed. However, passengers raised concerns about the lack of support from the airline at the airport after the landing.
In another RGIA incident, passengers on an Akasa Airlines flight to Delhi expressed frustration on July 22, 2024, after a significant delay. The scheduled 5:00 a.m. departure time passed without the aircraft’s arrival, and tensions escalated as passengers clashed with airline staff over unclear information regarding the flight’s status.
