HYDERABAD: A 14-year-old student from Babul Reddy Nagar died on Friday night after collapsing inside an autorickshaw, moments after boarding it with his father.

Family had migrated from Bihar

Police said Santosh and Shivakumar, who migrated from Bihar for work, have been living with their families in Babul Reddy Nagar. Santosh’s elder son Abhay, 14, studied in Class 8 at Sri Medha High School.

According to residents, Abhay had been unwell for the past two days and was resting at home. On Friday night, Santosh and Abhay set out towards Brindavan Colony and hired an autorickshaw.

Collapsed moments after boarding auto

As soon as Abhay got into the auto, he reportedly began frothing at the mouth and slipped into an unconscious state. Shocked by the sudden deterioration, Santosh alerted the driver and rushed the boy to a nearby hospital.

Doctors suspect cardiac arrest

Doctors declared Abhay dead on arrival and informed the family that he appeared to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

The sudden death left his parents, relatives and friends in deep grief. Hearing of the incident, the management of Sri Medha High School declared a holiday on Saturday.

Local community stunned

Residents said Abhay had no visible complications earlier in the day and was expected to recover from his mild illness. The unexpected collapse has caused concern among parents in the locality.

Further inquiry is under way.
