Mailardevpally rowdy sheeter convicted in NDPS, Arms Act case

HYDERABAD: A rowdy sheeter from Mailardevpally was convicted in a narcotics and illegal arms possession case registered by Falaknuma police, marking a significant outcome for the Hyderabad City Police.

The XVI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on January 22, 2026, convicted Mirza Rahmath Ali Baig in CC No. 79/2020 arising out of Crime No. 107/2020 of Falaknuma police station.

Baig was booked under Section 8(c) read with Section 20(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and Section 25(1)(b) of the Arms Act, 1959. The case related to possession of ganja and an illegal weapon.

The court sentenced the accused to simple imprisonment for one year and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for the NDPS offence. He was also awarded simple imprisonment for one year with a fine of ₹10,000 for the Arms Act offence. In default of payment of fines, he will undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment in each case.

Police said the case was investigated by K. Chandra Kumar, the first investigating officer, and R. Devender, the second investigating officer and present inspector of police, Bandlaguda police station. The prosecution was conducted by Premalatha, assistant public prosecutor attached to the XVI ACJM Court.

The trial was closely monitored by A. Seethaiah, station house officer of Falaknuma police station, with support from court duty officers and staff. Police said the conviction reinforced strict enforcement against drug trafficking and illegal arms possession in the city.
