Mailardevpally police arrest two for adulterated sweets racket

HYDERABAD: Police raided two food units in Mailardevpally under Rajendranagar limits and arrested two accused for selling expired sweets and chemically treated food items.
The units Lucky Foods in Subhan Colony and Messrs G Foods in Lakshmiguda were allegedly mixing chemicals in food products to prevent early spoilage. The items were prepared in unhygienic conditions, police said.
Chemicals used to extend shelf life illegally
Officials found that sweets such as laddus, badusha and jalebi were being prepared, packed in boxes and supplied to shops across the city even after expiry. Some seized products had expiry dates dating back to 2020.
The packages carried the caption “Quality with compromise,” printed on the boxes.
Expired stock and additives seized during raids
Police arrested Abdul Haq and Mohammed Khamaruddin in connection with the cases. They seized expired vanilla flavouring and sodium benzoate from the premises.
A total of 98 boxes of motichoor laddus and 35 kg of laddu mixture were also confiscated. The value of the seized goods is estimated at ₹1.10 lakh.
Mailardevpally police station is investigating the case.
