10-year-old boy dies after fall while retrieving kite in Mailardevpally

HYDERABAD: A 10-year-old boy died after falling from a building while attempting to retrieve a kite in Sai Baba Nagar, Mailardevpally, on Monday, police said.
The boy, identified as Hemanth, son of Mahender and Sujatha from Mancherial district, was playing in the neighbourhood when a kite got stuck on the roof of a nearby company shed, police said.
According to police, Hemanth climbed onto the shed roof to collect the kite. During the attempt, he lost balance and slipped through the roofing sheets, falling from a height and sustaining fatal injuries.
“The child died on the spot due to the severity of the injuries,” a police official said.
Locals rushed to the spot after the incident and alerted the police. The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
The incident has renewed concerns over child safety during kite flying, particularly when children climb terraces, sheds or buildings to retrieve kites caught on rooftops or electric wires.
