MAHABUBNAGAR: Police rescued a newborn who was allegedly sold by his parents for ₹1 lakh in Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district.

The case came to light after health workers visited the family’s house for the infant’s routine vaccination and found the baby missing. On questioning, the parents allegedly admitted that they had sold the newborn through a middleman.

Police traced and rescued the infant. The baby has been placed under official care while further legal procedures are being followed.

Probe into trafficking links

Police have launched an investigation into the role of the middleman, the buyers and whether the case is linked to a larger child trafficking network. Further details are awaited.

Authorities are examining the circumstances under which the newborn was allegedly sold and identifying all those involved in the transaction.
