MAHABUBABAD: Awareness campaigns on helmet use among two-wheeler riders in tribal hamlets and villages have yielded results in Mahabubabad district, with 100 per cent compliance reported in 36 gram panchayats.

Police said all riders in these villages now wear helmets, following sustained outreach under the ‘Arrive Alive’ programme.

4,900 riders newly adopt helmets after campaign push

Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy launched the programme on January 13, 2026, aiming to reduce road accidents. Following this, Superintendent of Police Shabarish held awareness meetings with sarpanches and municipal chairpersons.

The district has 482 gram panchayats and five municipalities. In the first phase, two villages per mandal and three wards in municipalities were selected for awareness drives.

‘No helmet, no entry’ rule enforced in select villages

Flex banners reading ‘No Helmet–No Entry’ were installed at entry points of 36 villages. Officials identified 8,100 two-wheelers in these areas. While 3,200 riders already owned helmets, the remaining 4,900 purchased them recently and began using them.

“Success was achieved in 36 panchayats in the first phase. In the second phase, 54 panchayats have been selected. The police department’s PowerPoint presentations influenced people,” Shabarish said.
