HYDERABAD: Family storm brews as Gopinath’s kin challenge Sunitha’s legitimacy

HYDERABAD: The family dispute over a family member certificate in the household of late Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath shows no signs of resolution. Gopinath’s first wife, Malini Devi, has objected to the certificate being issued to BRS nominee Sunitha and lodged a written complaint with the Jubilee Hills election officer.
Family members appear before inquiry officer
During the inquiry before Sherilingampalli Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) Venkata Reddy, Gopinath’s mother Mahananda Kumari, son Tarak Pradyumna, and wife Malini Devi appeared on Thursday. Sunitha’s daughter, Disha, attended the hearing with BRS legal adviser Lalitha Reddy.
After the session, Lalitha Reddy, convener of the BRS legal cell, said the dispute over the family certificate was continuing within Gopinath’s family. She said voter IDs and Aadhaar cards of Sunitha and her children bore the Maganti surname with Gopinath listed as father. “The Assembly Secretariat’s spouse card also names Maganti Sunitha. However, Tarak Pradyumna’s records mention only the surname Kosaraju, and Malini Devi’s documents list her as daughter of Venkateswara Rao, not wife of Gopinath,” she added.
Gopinath’s mother raises doubts over his death
After the inquiry, Mahananda Kumari alleged there were several doubts surrounding her son’s death. “When I went to the hospital to see him, I was not allowed inside. Even K T Rama Rao, who visited him, did not let me meet my son,” she said, demanding that KTR explain what had happened in the hospital.
She also said no one had informed the family about Sunitha’s decision to contest from Jubilee Hills. “As Gopinath’s mother, I am still alive, but no one has cared to consult me,” she said.
Tarak Pradyumna reiterated that he was Gopinath’s son and deserved a share in the property. “We came here to raise objections to issuing a family certificate to Sunitha,” he said. He alleged that when his father died, they were threatened and prevented from attending the funeral.
