Maddimadugu forest officials seize two monitor lizards
Telangana : Forest officials arrested two persons after seizing two monitor lizards being transported on a motorcycle near the Maddimadugu check-post during a vehicle inspection on Monday, June 23, 2026. Forest officials registered a case under the Wildlife (Protection) Act and remanded the accused, Maddimadugu Forest Range Officer K. Chandrakant Reddy said.
The arrested persons were identified as Sabhavat Hari Kumar, 43, son of Vasuram, a resident of Maredugu village.Sabhavat Hanmanth, 22, son of Hari Kumar, also a resident of Maredugu village.
One reptile shifted to Hyderabad Zoo
Of the two monitor lizards seized, one had already died. The other was shifted to the Hyderabad Zoo for care and rehabilitation following the directions of the competent court, the Forest Department said.
