MAA association cracks down on trolling, targets over 200 YouTube channels
Hyderabad: The Movie Artists Association (MAA) has taken a strong action against online trolling, announcing the termination of 25 YouTube channels and plans to target over 200 more.
In a press meet held on Thursday, actor Shiva Balaji, representing the Movie Artists Association (MAA), expressed their distress over online trolls and reviewers who spread negativity and hate speech under the guise of “dark humor.”
He announced the immediate termination of 25 such channels, with approximately 200 more facing the same fate by month’s end if they fail to take corrective measures.
The Movie Artists Association (MAA) has also submitted a formal representation to the state’s DGP, urging police action against individuals and YouTube channels that target film personalities, particularly women.
“When confronted about their trolling behavior, these channels often claim they are simply engaging in harmless dark humor,” said Shiva Balaji.
He further highlighted the challenges faced by artists, stating, “We put significant effort into creating meaningful content for audiences across India and globally. However, these trolls judge entire movies based solely on teasers and trailers, hindering audience engagement.”
Shiva Balaji revealed that the MAA has identified over 200 channels involved in trolling activities and plans to terminate them all by the end of the month. He urged these channels to take down their offensive content before facing termination, acknowledging the hard work invested in building their channels.
Manchu Vishnu, president of the Movie Artists Association (MAA), issued a public warning via social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter against those engaging in online sexual harassment. He said that the association will pursue legal action against such offenders.
