ACB arrests Rangareddy Joint Collector & Senior Assistant in Dharani portal bribery
Hyderabad: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested M.V. Bhoopal Reddy, the Joint Collector of Rangareddy District, and his subordinate, Y. Madan Mohan Reddy, a Senior Assistant, on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, on bribery charges. The two were apprehended in the act of allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 8 lakhs.
The ACB found that Madan Mohan Reddy took a bribe from Jakkidi Muthyam Reddy, a Gurramguda Village resident, at Gurramguda Cross Road. The money was demanded in exchange for removing 14 guntas of land from the prohibited list on the Dharani portal, Telangana’s land records system.
The bribe amount was recovered from Madan Mohan Reddy’s Maruti Swift Desire car, and a phenolphthalein test confirmed the presence of the substance on his hands.
During the interrogation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), he claimed to be acting on behalf of the Joint Collector of Rangareddy District, M.V. Bhoopal Reddy. He made a phone call to him and confirmed his involvement.
In a subsequent operation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau caught M.V. Bhoopal Reddy at 10:41 p.m. when he arrived at Peddamberpet ORR in his official vehicle. He was allegedly receiving a bribe from his subordinate, Madan Mohan Reddy, inside the car. The recovered money tested positive for phenolphthalein.
Both officials are accused of misusing their official positions for personal gain. They are to be produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases Court in Hyderabad. The ACB investigation into the matter is ongoing.
