Lulu Hypermarket in Hyderabad faces food safety violations during inspection
HYDERABAD: Food Safety officials in Telangana detected multiple violations during an inspection at Lulu Hypermarket in KPHB Colony under the CFS Telangana drive.
Officials said poor hygiene conditions were found in the in-house kitchen. Leftover food stored in refrigerators was discarded on the spot. Inspecting teams also found pests and decayed vegetables inside the kitchen area.
Food Safety officers further detected near-expiry packed food items with torn and misleading labels.
Pest infestation detected in flour and pulses
In the retail section, officials found insect infestation in besan flour, atta and dals. They also identified packed food products carrying expired Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences.
Labelling and display violations were also noticed. Officials said some products lacked nutritional information, FSSAI licence details and manufacturer addresses.
Meat waste found clogging drains
In the butchering area, drains clogged with meat waste were found emitting a pungent smell. Officials described the condition as a serious public health concern.
Authorities seized or discarded around 150 kg of food products, including sweets, oils, flour and pulses affected by infestation.

Food samples were collected on suspicion of adulteration, excessive artificial colour usage and pest infestation. The samples have been sent for laboratory analysis.
Food Safety officials advised consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing food products from supermarkets, bakeries, eateries and retail outlets.
