HYDERABAD: Panic prevailed at Vaddera Basti in Nallakunta after a fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building following an LPG leak on Saturday.

The blaze erupted in a first-floor apartment where a family of seven was residing. Flames spread rapidly after the leakage-triggered explosion, trapping the occupants inside the house.

Alerted neighbours informed the police and fire department. Personnel from Nallakunta police station and fire services rushed to the spot and rescued all seven using ropes as smoke filled the building.

The victims were shifted to a nearby hospital after complaining of breathlessness due to smoke inhalation. Hospital authorities said all of them are out of danger.

Police said a probe is under way to ascertain the exact cause of the LPG leak and the subsequent fire.
