Cyber Awareness Warning About Fake Lpg Gas Booking Websites And Online Payment Scams

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Unit has issued a cyber awareness alert over a rise in online fraud linked to LPG cylinder bookings. Fraudsters are taking advantage of the ongoing shortage of cylinders to target consumers.

According to officials, cyber criminals are creating fake websites, links and social media advertisements. These platforms claim to offer instant LPG booking or quick delivery. As a result, many users end up making online payments or sharing sensitive financial details.

Fraudsters using fake links and messages

Meanwhile, criminals are circulating fake SMS messages, WhatsApp forwards and social media advertisements. These messages promise LPG cylinders at discounted prices or urgent delivery.

However, the links in these messages often redirect users to fake websites that resemble official LPG company portals. Once users try to book cylinders or make payments, fraudsters steal their personal or banking details.

Officials also warned that many fake portals closely imitate genuine LPG distributor websites. Therefore, consumers may find it difficult to identify the fraud.

Authorities advise safe booking methods

Authorities urged citizens to book LPG cylinders only through official company websites, authorised mobile applications or registered distributors.

In addition, officials advised people not to click on unknown links requesting payment for LPG booking. They also warned users never to share OTPs, bank account details or UPI PINs with anyone claiming to arrange LPG cylinders.

Any message promising urgent or guaranteed LPG delivery after online payment should be treated as suspicious.

Report cyber fraud immediately

In case of cyber fraud, victims should immediately report the incident by calling the national cybercrime helpline 1930. They can also file complaints through the official portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.
